We are pleased to announce that the new Silk Brass website is now live.
We aim to keep you up-to-date with the band's musical adventures by regularly updating the website with news items and information about forthcoming concerts, and with the website's 'responsive' design, whatever device you are accessing it on - smartphone, tablet or PC - then the information you need should be easy to find.
It is also easy to share information from the site with your friends on social media sites by using the small square Facebook, Twitter, Googleplus and LinkedIn buttons just beneath each article, news item or concert.
Of course, you can still follow the band on Facebook and Twitter as well as watch our YouTube channel. Simply use the round Facebook, Twitter and YouTube buttons at either the very top of the page or in the Contact Us section at the bottom of each page to go straight to our social media profiles.
Enjoy!

Silk Brass were proud to be the headline act at this year's 'Brass on the Grass' at Congleton Park.
The large audience, who were enjoying the warm sunshine as well the many music acts, were enthusiastic with their applause for the band's varied programme, with music from Shostakovich to Sousa to Barry Manilow!
The band were delighted to be joined by guest soloists Glyn Williams (Euphonium) and Helen Williams (Flugel) and Glyn's performance of the traditional euphonium solo 'My Grandfather's Clock' can be seen by following the Youtube link below.
Other ensembles that featured throughout the day were Rode Hall Silver Band, Can’t Sing Choir, U3A Ukulele Group and Salt City Jazz Men.

The band had a very enjoyable and successful night at the Whit Friday contests last week!
After a slow start due to major traffic hold-ups, we managed to compete at 9 of the 11 venues in Tameside securing the following prizes on the way:
Audenshaw (Aldwinians Rugby) - 1st Prize (Second Section)
Carrbrook - 1st Prize (Second Section)
Dukinfield (Tame Valley Hotel) - 1st Prize (Second Section)
Stalybridge Celtic - 1st Prize (Second Section)
Droylsdon (The Bush Inn) - 2nd Prize (Second Section)
After all the contests had collated their results we were given the overall rank of 10th in the Tameside area - an excellent result taking quite a few scalps from some 'big name' bands!
You can watch one of our prize winning performances by using the Youtube button below.

Silk Brass is please to announce that from January 2016 the band will be back contesting in the First Section for brass band competitions.
This is thanks to the hard work put in by band and conductor in the run up to the North West Regional Band Championships that were held at Blackpool's Winter Gardens last Sunday, where the band put in a stellar performance of 'Variations on Maccabeus' by Kevin Norbury. The band were awarded 4th place, and due to our high average placement over the last 3 years we have gained promotion to the First Section.
We look forward to competing (and winning) at this higher level in the near future!

After a very high standard of auditions we're very pleased to welcome to the band our new Musical Director Tony Wyatt. Tony brings with him a wealth of experience both as a player and as an MD. He has been a brass player for many years- starting at the age of 7 and joining the National Youth Brass Band at 11 , and later the Cheshire Youth Brass Band. More recently Tony has played for the Fairey Band, held the position of MD at Whaley Bridge Band and has had a relationship of more than 30 years with the VBS Poynton band, at times on Principal Cornet and as MD. Tony joins Silk Brass to build on the band's successful year last year, continuing our work to gain promotion back to the 1st section, support links with local youth bands and deliver high quality and entertaining concerts around the region.
